Google DeepMind and Google Cloud plan to provide up to 200 European scientific researchers with access to advanced artificial intelligence tools and $3 million in computing credits, Reuters reported on October 14, 2026.
The initiative covers AI systems designed for scientific work, including molecular biology, genetics, weather forecasting, Earth observation and algorithm development. It combines access to specialised research tools with cloud computing resources that scientists can use to run computational workloads.
The tools named in the report include AlphaFold 3, which predicts molecular structures and interactions; WeatherNext, Google’s AI weather forecasting system; AlphaGenome, which predicts how DNA sequences affect biological processes; and AlphaEvolve, a system for developing and optimising algorithms. The fifth is AlphaEarth Foundations, which combines Earth-observation data for environmental and geospatial analysis.
The $3 million allocation is in computing credits rather than a reported cash grant to researchers. The credits are intended to support access to computing resources, while the AI tools provide capabilities that can be applied to specific scientific problems.
