Samsung has officially announced its next Galaxy Unpacked event. On July 9th in Brooklyn, New York, the company will reveal its latest foldable smartphones, headlined by the Galaxy Z Fold 7. The event will be streamed live on Samsung’s website and YouTube channel.
While Samsung hasn’t confirmed every detail, numerous leaks and reports provide a picture of what to expect:
Design & Displays
Leaked renders (courtesy of OnLeaks and Android Headlines) suggest the Z Fold 7 will feature larger displays than its predecessor: a 6.5-inch outer cover screen and an 8.2-inch main inner screen.
The device appears significantly slimmer in renders. Leaker Ice Universe claims it could measure 3.9 mm thick when open and 8.9 mm when folded, potentially making it the world’s thinnest foldable.
Three color options are anticipated: Blue Shadow, Jet Black, and a silver hue.
Samsung showcased a “creaseless foldable panel” at MWC 2025. Reports, like those from Android Central, suggest this technology significantly reduces the visible crease, similar to competitors like the OPPO Find N5 and Honor Magic V3. OPPO’s Find N5 reportedly uses a Samsung Display panel.
An alleged leak mentioned a titanium backplate between the hinge and internal screen, possibly aiding durability and weight reduction.
Specifications & Hardware
The Z Fold 7 is expected to be powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, specifically a custom “for Galaxy” variant. This chip offers substantial performance and efficiency gains over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 found in the Z Fold 6.
Leaks suggest a single major camera hardware change: replacing the 50 MP main sensor with the 200 MP sensor used in the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
The battery capacity is rumored to remain at 4,400 mAh, the same as the Z Fold 6 and Z Fold 3.
Other potential upgrades include a larger vapor chamber for cooling, improved water/dust resistance, and enhanced speakers and haptics.
The phone is expected to launch running One UI 8 based on Android 16.
S Pen Support & Uncertainties
While the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition lacked S Pen support, a February rumor indicated Samsung is developing a “revamped S Pen” and intends to keep stylus functionality. Its inclusion in the Z Fold 7 remains a key question, as its absence could impact sales.
Reports from The Elec in January 2025 suggested Samsung might reserve more significant changes for the Z Fold 8 series in 2026.
Market Context & Pricing
Samsung faces intensified competition in the foldable market from OnePlus, Google, OPPO, Xiaomi, and Huawei (notably with its tri-fold device).
Pricing details are scarce. Rumors suggest a possible price increase due to the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset costs, though Samsung is reportedly already struggling to sell the $1,799 Z Fold 6 and has lowered sales projections for the Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7.
Beyond the Fold 7
Speculation continues about a possible “Ultra” variant of the Z Fold 7 or the debut of a Samsung tri-fold device (sometimes referred to as the “G Fold”). However, it’s unclear if these will materialize on July 9th.
Samsung’s July 9th Unpacked event will provide the definitive answers on the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s design, specs, features, and price as the foldable market continues to evolve rapidly.
