Quest Diagnostics has paused access to its Quanum Lab Services Manager (LSM) system after detecting unauthorised access, with the US laboratory testing company investigating whether patient records were accessed.
The company became aware of the incident on Wednesday, October 21, according to information reported by Reuters on Thursday. Quest believed an unauthorised party had accessed certain patient records, but the full scope of the incident remained under investigation.
Quanum LSM is a web-based platform used by healthcare professionals to order laboratory tests and access patient results. Its temporary suspension could affect providers who rely on the portal for these services.
Quest notified federal law enforcement and activated its cybersecurity response procedures. The company has said the incident has not materially disrupted its business operations, although it has not publicly established how many patients may have been affected or whether information was copied or removed from its systems.
Quest is working to restore access to Quanum LSM. Healthcare providers using certain direct laboratory information system interfaces or electronic medical record systems can continue placing test orders through those unaffected channels, according to the company’s official incident notice.
