\"MoneyGram<\/p>\n

MoneyGram has joined Tempo as an \u201cAnchor Remittance Validator,\u201d giving the global money-transfer company a role in validating transactions on the payments-focused blockchain<\/a> as the two sides prepare to use stablecoins for institutional settlement.<\/p>\n

Announced on May 20, 2026, the partnership also involves Stripe. MoneyGram, Tempo and Stripe plan to bring stablecoin settlement into live settlement flows, with Stripe expected to settle to MoneyGram through Tempo\u2019s onchain infrastructure.<\/p>\n

The arrangement makes MoneyGram part of the infrastructure supporting a blockchain designed for payments rather than simply using it as an external service. Tempo describes its network as a Layer 1 built around stablecoins and real-world payment activity, with dedicated payment lanes, stablecoin-denominated transaction fees and an EVM-compatible execution environment.<\/p>\n

Settlement liquidity is a central focus<\/h2>\n

The partnership addresses an operational issue in international remittances: the need to maintain liquidity in different markets before money can be delivered to recipients.<\/p>\n

At Stripe Sessions 2026, MoneyGram executive Luke Tuttle said the company moves nearly $200 billion through its network and maintains more than $1 billion in float globally to support its instant-transfer operation. He said stablecoins could allow counterparties to settle in real time, reducing the reliance on funds being positioned in advance across multiple markets.<\/p>\n

MoneyGram CEO Anthony Soohoo has also described the challenge across approximately 20,000 remittance corridors. The company has to anticipate settlement flows, determine where liquidity is required and account for different currencies and settlement timing. Soohoo cited transfers such as those between Dubai and Morocco as examples of corridors where those requirements have to be managed.<\/p>\n

Under the announced arrangement, Tempo is intended to provide the blockchain settlement infrastructure while MoneyGram participates directly in validating transactions. The companies have not disclosed what portion of MoneyGram\u2019s existing remittance volume will use Tempo or how much transaction volume has already been settled through the network.<\/p>\n

Tempo<\/a> launched its mainnet on March 18, 2026. Its payment-focused design includes transaction processing lanes and the ability to pay network fees in supported stablecoins rather than requiring users to acquire a separate native token.<\/p>\n

Stripe connection adds an institutional settlement use case<\/h2>\n

Stripe is closely connected to Tempo, which was incubated by Stripe and Paradigm. The MoneyGram partnership gives that infrastructure a specific remittance settlement application: the announced flow would allow Stripe to settle to MoneyGram through Tempo using stablecoins.<\/p>\n

Tempo had previously announced Stripe, Visa and Zodia Custody by Standard Chartered as validators. MoneyGram\u2019s addition extends the validator group with a company whose existing business is centered on cross-border money transfers.<\/p>\n

The partnership follows MoneyGram\u2019s earlier work with blockchain infrastructure. The company has used Stellar and USDC to connect digital wallets with its cash network and partnered with Fireblocks on stablecoin settlement and treasury infrastructure. Those efforts provide the background for its decision to take an active infrastructure role on Tempo rather than limiting its involvement to an end-user integration.<\/p>\n

MoneyGram\u2019s May 20 announcement identifies the planned Stripe-to-MoneyGram settlement flow and the company\u2019s validator role, but does not say that all of its remittance transactions will move to Tempo or that Tempo will become the company\u2019s sole blockchain settlement network.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
